Poland’s water and wastewater sector is rapidly moving away from traditional meter reading towards remote reading systems. At Plum, we are actively contributing to this transformation by delivering projects for some of the country’s largest water utilities. Our latest deployments in Warsaw, Poznań, Katowice and Zielona Góra alone include more than 200,000 devices, as well as IT systems and integrations tailored to the infrastructure of each utility.
more than 200,000 devices
across four major cities
The largest of the new projects is being delivered for Aquanet S.A. in Poznań and includes 130,000 devices together with an IT system running on the customer’s own infrastructure.
Other deployments include:
- MPWiK Warsaw – 32,000 devices and an advanced IT system,
- Katowickie Wodociągi – 24,000 devices and access to an IT system,
- Zielonogórskie Wodociągi i Kanalizacja – 18,000 devices together with system integrations.
The scale of these projects shows that remote meter reading is becoming one of the key areas of digital transformation for large water and wastewater utilities. For us at Plum, this also marks another stage in the dynamic growth of our water segment and reflects the trust placed in our solutions by major industry partners.
NB-IoT
supporting remote meter reading
One of the solutions used in these new projects is the MacIQ WM telemetry module, which uses NB-IoT connectivity.
It enables automatic data transmission without the need for traditional walk-by or drive-by meter reading. The devices are designed for long-term operation, offering at least 10 years of battery life. With an IP68 protection rating, they are also suitable for demanding environments, including locations exposed to flooding.
Telecommunications infrastructure is another important part of these deployments. In some of our largest projects, we cooperate with T-Mobile Polska S.A., while other implementations also involve Polkomtel Sp. z o.o., the operator of the Plus network. Working with major telecom operators enables Plum telemetry solutions to be combined with the network infrastructure required for reliable and secure data transmission at scale.
more
than just devices
The digital transformation of water infrastructure requires much more than a telemetry module alone. That is why Plum develops solutions that combine devices with IT systems for collecting and aggregating data, applications supporting installation, integrations with customer infrastructure, as well as ongoing maintenance and technical support. This approach allows each deployment to be tailored to the specific needs of the utility and scaled as its infrastructure continues to grow.
Projects of this scale clearly demonstrate that remote meter reading is no longer a technology of the future. It is becoming an integral part of the digital infrastructure of Polish water utilities.
